Overview

Courtney Sennish is a printmaker and sculptor based in the Bay Area, CA. She is inspired by architecture and the built environment. Her imagery examines found color, shape and texture. She is a trained Master Printer from Crown Point Press who received her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and MFA from California College of the Arts. She co-founded Moonlight Press in 2023 located in Oakland, CA. Courtney has been showing her own work around the Bay Area, in multiple group shows.  In 2016 she had a solo show at Johansson Projects, and a solo exhibition at the Monterey Museum of Art’s Currents Gallery in 2019. She is working on upcoming two-person exhibitions at Truckee Community College in Reno, NV and Nick Ryan Gallery in Boulder, CO.

"I amble through the city in search of illuminations: silent monuments presenting symbolic form and human decision. My process begins through isolating specific moments and details found in the urban landscape through photo documented walks. The city’s concrete gridded layout, road signals, paint colors and built textures weave together a familiar pattern: an urban fabric from which I can pull apart the individual pieces. I grant a spatial story to these accumulations through my sculpture. I look at repetition, shape and texture. I am interested in how nature is represented within the city structure and how people connect to the constructed landscape."
