Nick Ryan Gallery presents Rogue Vogue in the Land of Fashion, a solo exhibition by Connecticut-based painter Bob Knox. Spanning both floors of the gallery, the exhibition features a new body of paintings and collages that combine visual satire, irony, and layered art-historical references.
Knox’s newest works incorporate fragments and quotations drawn from a wide range of artworks and periods throughout art history, recontextualizing them within densely constructed compositions. References to 19th-century painting form one recurring thread, appearing alongside imagery from other historical sources, fashion, popular culture, and the artist’s own visual vocabulary. The resulting works are at once humorous and psychologically charged, using juxtaposition and visual metaphor to create open-ended narratives.
